Domaine A / Stoney Vineyard is a 20ha property in the Coal River Valley of Southern Tasmania,
established by Peter and Ruth Althaus. Just half an hour’s drive from the city of Hobart,
it was originally planted with 0.5ha of noble grape varieties in 1973 by its former owners, Priscilla
and George Park. In 1989, inspired by the quality and potential of the site’s early wines the Althaus’
purchased Stoney Vineyard – the culmination of a long and exhaustive world-wide search for a site
ideally suited to cool-climate viticulture.

Upon Peter’s retirement in 2018, Moorilla Estate now owns and operates Domaine A / Stoney Vineyard.

The valley enjoys a temperate maritime climate, with annual rainfall often less than 500mm. Long,
dry and mild growing seasons allow fruit from the property’s 11ha of closely planted vines to ripen
well into late April and early May, bringing to the wines aromas and flavours of great subtlety and
