il Poggione

The story of Tenuta Il Poggione tells of Lavinio Franceschi, whose greatest achievement was to see
the possibilities of the Sangiovese grapes that had always been grown in the area. After more than
a century, Lavinio Franceschi’s work is still a fundamental point of reference for his successors,
Leopoldo and Livia, who continue to develop the business with that same dedication and unflagging
passion, combining the ancient skills of winemaking crafts and tradition with the latest, most
progressive techniques.

Today, Tenuta Il Poggione is one of Montalcino’s major wineries. The estate’s guiding principle is to
pay meticulous attention to the vineyards. Diversified agriculture is also essential, so that vines are
alternated with a variety of crops and wild animals are allowed to live in harmony with nature.
